Animals should enter Norway through Oslo Airport or Storskog (Kirkenes).

You must contact the Norwegian Food Safety Authority at the point of entry and present the animals and the necessary documentation for checking.

We recommend that you notify Mattilsynet (The Norwegian Food Safety Authority) at least 48 hours before arrival in order to avoid a long waiting time before the check can be carried out.

Travelers with pets must arrive at Storskog between 09:00 and 14:00. Pets arriving after 14:00 will not be inspected and must return with their owner to Russia.

Pets can be checked in another EU/EEA country

If you are traveling to Norway via another EU/EEA country, you can have your pet checked at a travellers' point of entry upon entry into the EU/EEA. Here is a list of such points of entry: Travellers' points of entry - European Commission (europa.eu).

If the pet travels with an EU-approved health certificate, you must have the certificate stamped, signed, and dated at the control point.

Once the pet has been checked at a travellers' point of entry, you can use other border crossings besides Oslo Airport and Storskog. You do not need to notify anye Norwegian authorities before arrival. Proceed to the red channel at customs and present the pet and its documents.

Some dog breeds are banned in Norway

The following breeds are banned from entering Norway. The ban also applies to crossbreeds where there is one or more of these breeds in any proportion:
